Ragini Kudchadkar, MD, from Winship Cancer Institute, explains what nurses should keep in mind when treating patients with basal cell carcinoma.
Often, patients with basal cell carcinoma will have had prior difficulties with access to care. As such, nurses should be ready to support the patients during this process, with medications, insurance, payments, and paperwork. Side effects from hedgehog inhibitors can be difficult as well: taste loss, weight loss, hair loss and muscle cramping. Nurses should help patients with compliance and encourage them to keep up with supplements to maintain a healthy weight.
