Jeannine Brant, PhD, APRN, AOCN, oncology clinical nurse specialist, nurse scientist, Billings Clinic, shares her thoughts on how palliative care will be integrated in the future.
Brant says at the Billings Clinic, the supportive care team and the palliative care team are one and the same. The team manages patients with cancer by building a relationship during their visits and helping them during any transitions in their treatment, Brant says. Having the patient’s nurses and physicians provide palliative care throughout treatment is the best model for success.
Brant says this model can also transfer to other disease states such as heart failure or neurological disorders.
