Brian Loew, CEO, Inspire, discusses online cancer patient communities and how they help patients connect and share information.

Loew says an online community about cancer works well for multiple reasons. In cancer, there is both a family caregiver involvement and a patient involvement. Due to the nature of the disease, there is a real intensity and urgency, Loew says, so people flock to online support communities to gather information. In the online communities, people get support from multiple channels, including doctors, nurses, and peers.

Also, Loew says many members turn to one another to share experiences and talk about what they are going through.
