Brian Loew, CEO, Inspire, explains how oncology nurses can benefit from online cancer patient communities

Brian Loew, CEO, Inspire, explains how oncology nurses can benefit from online cancer patient communities.

Loew says there is an enormous amount of conversation by patients in the community about experiences with their nurses and doctors. These conversations range from what their nurse told them during their visit to suggestions for other patients about what they should ask their doctor or nurse the next time they visit.

Loew says this has a great deal of interest to nurses because it gives them the insight to see what their patients want to hear. Online patient communities also offer nurses information about cancers they might not know that much about.

Online patient communities also teach nurses what it’s like to have cancer from the patient and caregiver’s perspective, Loew says. The ability to access the different perspectives and information associated with cancer is very valuable to oncology nurses.
