Telemedicine between nurses and patients has traditionally been by telephone, but a video platform expands the communication and allows nurses to deal with patients without the need for a doctor to participate.

Spitz adds that nurses are also learning how to perform sophisticated tests remotely, such as neuromodulation tests for certain implants. The nurse can perform the test and forward the results to the physician. These calibrations used to be reserved for the doctor in an office.
